As the reasons become more intriguing (deactivated gluteus) the reality is becoming harder to watch.

Tiger withdrew from the Farmers at Torrey Pines after 11 holes on the North course Thursday. After two fog delays prior to teeing off, Tiger’s back started giving him problems almost immediately after his opening round started. Seemingly in pain after his tee shot on #11 (his 2nd hole) he had little control over his driving and his short game wasn’t much better than the debacle in Scottsdale last week.

The only sign that this wasn’t some imposter dressed as the golfing great was legendary ability to get the ball in the hole. After holing a 30 footer for birdie on his 10th hole of the day he managed to be level par after limping and grimacing around the course chasing his less than stellar shots. The pain was so bad playing companion Billy Horschel picked Tiger’s ball and tees up for him on several occasions.

Unfortunately on his next hole Tiger made a mess of one of the easiest par 4’s on tour with every shot that has plagued him recently appearing on one hole. Tee shot blown way right, bladed wedge over the gallery behind the green, fatted chip short of the green, quick hit the next chip 20 feet by the hole, missed putt. Torrey North gets that treatment for 51 weeks out of every year, but this was arguably the greatest golfer of all time. Double bogey 6.

He teed off on the par 3 third next… then withdrew.

Unfortunately this bizarre situation isn’t an isolated incident. The body breaking down and the subsequent poor play have become a sad norm.

A possible look into his future came moments after as he was about to leave the property. The most ruthless and efficient closer the game has ever seen gave his most human response to a reporters question in the parking lot after the wd. Tiger mentioned his desire to see his kids and attending their after school activities cutting into his practice time. Clearly a new chapter in his life is well under way. No matter how bullet proof his desire to win once was, no golfer can withstand more of what he’s gone through the last couple of weeks.

Let’s see. Endure excruciating physical pain while millions of people watch and analyze why you are a shadow of your former self OR watch your kids have time of their life growing up… Which would you choose?
